DIRECTIONS 718-332-3400

Smaller dogs are a diverse group. Here are sturdy animals with as different personalities and appearances. These are feisty, energetic dogs whose sizes range from fairly small to Medium size Terriers.

Jack Russell Terrier
Bold and friendly. Athletic and clever. At work he is a game hunter, tenacious and courageous. At home he is playful, exuberant and overwhelmingly affectionate. He is an independent and energetic terrier and requires his due portion of attention. He should not be quarrelsome. Shyness should not be confused with submissiveness. Submissiveness is not a fault.

Poodle
That of a very active, intelligent and elegant-appearing dog, squarely built, well proportioned, moving soundly and carrying himself proudly. Properly clipped in the traditional fashion and carefully groomed, the Poodle has about him an air of distinction and dignity peculiar to himself. .

Boston Terrier
The Boston Terrier is a friendly and lively dog. The breed has an excellent disposition and a high degree of intelligence, which makes the Boston Terrier an incomparable companion. The clean-cut short backed body of the Boston Terrier coupled with the unique characteristics of his square head and jaw, and his striking markings have resulted in a most dapper and charming American original: The Boston Terrier.

Cockapoo
Crosses between the Miniature Poodle and American Cocker Spaniel have existed for over 30 years. Cockapoos are now so common in North America that they may soon obtain breed standards and formal recognition. The Poodle is evident in both face and coat texture. These dogs are intent observers, not given to the hyperactive excesses of many Cocker Spaniels. Cockapoos have a much lower incidence of skin problems than the Cocker. These dogs make great family pets. Their non-shedding coat requires frequent grooming. They weigh 20 to 25 lbs. and stand 14-15" at the shoulders.

Dachshund
The Dachshund is clever, lively and courageous to the point of rashness, persevering in above and below ground work, with all the senses well-developed. Dachshunds require minimal routine brushing to keep their coats healthy and in good condition. The longhaired and wirehaired Dachshunds may require extra grooming or help from a professional. The Dachshund is naturally free from ''doggy'' odor. The Dachshund makes a good companion whether you live in a small city apartment or the country. Dachshunds are loyal.

Bichon Frise
The Bichon Frise's name translates to mean, ''Curly Lap Dog.'' He is a tough and healthy dog who was bred to be a lap dog for French Royalty, but during the French Revolution, became street dogs, and only the toughest survived. To keep the Bichon's coat healthy you must brush it frequently. A cheerful attitude is the hallmark of the breed.
